Today I am sharing a short piece of prose. It was inspired by a writing prompt from sammiscribbles.wordpress.com. The word ‘question’ must appear and the piece must be exactly 84 words long. I wrote it around Halloween. 😊 Here goes.

I open my eyes to darkness. The room musty, as though no life had visited in a long time. A sound or possibly a movement had woken me. Now only silence.

I look into the heavy shadows. The house, so familiar to me, and yet tonight, so strange. As though I had awoken elsewhere.

I sense movement. Reach for the light. A chill descends, cold as ice. On the wall opposite, drawn by an unseen hand, a large question mark appears. Dripping blood red.
